This is a reprint of BL Gildersleeve and G Lodge Latin Grammar 1895 long the standard reference work on the subject in English and for very good reason It is well enough organized that undergraduates have no difficulty finding the essentials but there is enough detail to satisfy advanced Latinists as well Points are illustrated with citations from classical literature all of them translated New for the reprint an essay explaining how Gildersleeve came to write the book in the first place and a bibliographical supplement compiled in 1997 The latter unfortunately was sloppily done That detail apart this in an excellent book; it is in fact the Latin reference grammar that I recommend to my own students The hardback version is produced in signatures with a sturdy binding and should serve for a lifetime B Victor University of Montreal
